The construction of the auditorium and conference centre of Pontevedra was planned in the early nineties of the 20th century as part of an extensive urban planning project for enlarging the north-eastern area of the town, on land reclaimed from the sea of a former marshland.

The Spanish architect Manuel de las Casas won the preliminary design competition. Then, the building construction, which comprised several stages, began in 1993 and ended in 1998.

This contemporary building complex covers an area of 10,000 m2, including an exhibition area, meeting rooms, an auditorium and a restaurant. It is a multi-purpose building whose rooms can all be used at the same time.

Since 1998 it has been one of the exhibition spaces of the Pontevedra Art Biennial.
