Yasmeen Abdullah

The work of Sudanese artist Yasmeen Abdullah (1992, Doha, Qatar) explores the intersections between painting, poetry and human feelings. She is an active artistic voice in the Sudanese revolution and, in her creative universe, everyday objects are no longer mere functional elements and become receptacles of history, emotion and transcendence. Deeply influenced by Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish's work, her canvases address issues such as conflict, reconciliation and shared humanity. The fusion of nature and interior spaces is another leitmotif in her work, which alludes to the interconnection between our external and internal worlds, emphasising that the boundaries between them are often more porous than we think. Through her canvases, she invites viewers to reflect on the invisible layers that make up reality and on the stories beneath the surface of the visible, thus revealing the nuances and the shadows that enrich our understanding of life.
