Pontevedra, a creative town

Located in the heart of As Rías Baixas, Pontevedra stands as a cultural reference centre in Galicia. A walkable and welcoming town, it combines history and the avant-garde, tradition and innovation, a fertile environment for contemporary creation.

Home to the Museum of Pontevedra, one of the most important cultural institutions in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula, the town also hosts key spaces for artistic thought and practice such as the Faculty of Fine Arts and the Faculty of Design, part of the Campus CREA. This campus, well-known for its commitment to specialisation through art, communication and creativity, promotes areas like education, social innovation, sport, health, well-being and the environment.

The newly created Faculty of Design represents one of the most ambitious initiatives of the Galician university system in the field of applied creativity. Its interdisciplinary approach, in line with today's demands, places design as a key tool for transforming society, improving quality of life and providing innovative solutions in multiple contexts. From graphic and product design to service design, this Faculty fosters a solid, critical and impact-oriented education, maintaining a close dialogue with the professional, business and cultural environment.

In addition to this ecosystem, there are other key institutions related to artistic training and heritage conservation.

The Faculty of Fine Arts of Pontevedra, one of the most renowned faculties in the Spanish university context, stands out for its contemporary approach, its commitment to artistic research and its close bonds with the town's cultural fabric. Its students, teachers and creators actively contribute to the cultural dynamism of Pontevedra.

The Higher School of Cultural Assets Conservation and Restoration of Galicia, located in Pontevedra, is a pioneering centre that trains professionals specialised in the protection, study and restoration of artistic heritage. Its activity connects tradition with the latest techniques and is a key pillar for the knowledge and protection of the Galician cultural memory.

As for the Stonecraft Vocational Training Centre of Galicia, it keeps alive one of the country's most emblematic craft traditions: stonework. Through a highly specialised training linked to the trade, this centre projects stonecraft into the future, by combining ancestral knowledge with new constructive and artistic languages.

Illa das Esculturas (island of sculptures), located on a bank of the Lérez River, is one of the most visible examples of how contemporary art forms part of Pontevedra's everyday landscape. This open-air sculpture park, boasting works by national and international artists, reinforces the bonds between art, nature and citizenship, and is already one the most representative spaces on the town's cultural map.

Pontevedra is today a laboratory town, a place that inspires, welcomes and projects creation from the local to the global. The Art Biennial finds in this town a natural setting for dialogue between artists, citizens and territory.

Thanks to this network of centres and initiatives, Pontevedra consolidates itself as a town that not only welcomes creation, but also shapes, protects and projects it.
