Works
Vida (Life, 2025)
On the façade of the Castelao Building of the Museum of Pontevedra, Marina Núñez presents a work consisting of digital prints on the building glass. With large images evoking aerial explosions, successors to the heroic flower scenes, Núñez introduces us to the main theme of the Biennial: war. In this work, flowers are not only aesthetic elements, but symbols of struggle and rebirth. Through the explosions, it is suggested that life can emerge from destruction in various forms, such as plants, micro-organisms or organic matter. The idea of 'creative destruction' present in her work shows how, after devastation, new opportunities for change appear and how, in order to generate transformations, it is necessary to subvert the established order. These works invite us to reflect on nature in a world characterised by social and environmental crises. With a symbolism full of meanings, Núñez shows us a reconsideration of heroism in a contemporary context, where the struggle for survival goes from the personal to the political. At the same time, the work makes us think about the human race's extinction, on a planet where, although human beings may disappear, life will probably continue. A reflection that, between the utopian and the dystopian, questions resistance in the face of the challenges of the present time and the growing interconnection between nature and humanity.
