Prison n5 (2017)
This piece was born out of an extreme situation, as Zehra Doğan created it during her time in prison. Without any access to art materials, with a friend's help, she began to create a series of illustrations on the back of the letters she received. This project, which lasted two years, records her experience in prison. Prison n5 is a testimony to oppression and struggle for freedom, a demonstration of the solidarity that is built in spaces of resistance. It shows how, even in the most restrictive settings, art can serve as an escape route, as a means for spiritual survival and a connection to the outside world.
