ÑAMPAQ ÑAWI, QHIPAQ ÑAWI (Ollo ao pasado, ollo ao futuro, 2025)

Violeta Quispe Yupari's work for the Biennial of Pontevedra is an installation made up of a sculpture and two paintings. The title refers to the fear we feel deep inside us, a feeling that, although it can cause us trauma, also has the power to transform us. To the artist, fear is double-edge: it can be destructive, but it also allows us to connect with the suffering of others, which makes us more human. This sensitivity may be key to building more empathetic and solidary societies, which recognise collective suffering and seek shared healing. Quispe reflects on how fear, triggered by experiences such as war or forced displacement, not only makes us weaker, but also gives us the opportunity to become more aware of who we are and our common roots. ÑAMPAQ ÑAWI, QHIPAQ ÑAWI shows this healing process and recognises what unites us, despite our differences. By giving visibility to this fear, the work invites us to think about a fairer and more collective future.
