Bienal de Pontevedra

In 2022, with the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, Tizón travelled to the country on several occasions to document the conflict and carry out humanitarian work in the most affected areas. During his stay, he captured the three images that are now on display at the Pontevedra Biennial. Fe en tempos de guerra (Faith in times of war, 2022) is a diptych that reflects the contrast between spirituality and war violence. The image on the left shows a mass in a church located in Lviv, where soldiers gather before leaving to the front line, while the image on the right, taken on a road near the Russian border, documents the death of a young Ukrainian soldier. This photograph reminds us of the consequences of a conflict that is frequently justified in the name of ideologies or beliefs.
