Electrical Gaza (2015)

A film more relevant than ever. It offers a portrait of Gaza before the increased tension between Palestine and Israel in 2014. Its portrayal of the region seems like a fiction, as, for once, violence is not the main theme. Rather than focusing on violence, the work shows Gaza full of life: girls and boys playing in the streets, men cooking falafel and horses bathing in the Mediterranean. The film challenges conventional narratives, portraying Gaza as a beautiful and vulnerable place, questioning the representation that the media frequently offer. The film also uses shifts in perspective to reflect the tensions inherent in the area. The aerial shots, which contrast with claustrophobic close-ups, highlight the two contradictory realities of the region: a military zone and a bustling home. Electrical Gaza captures Palestine just before a devastating conflict to create a portrait that, despite its specific nature, resonates universally as a testimony of resilience in the face of adversity.
