Dalia (Dahlia, 2025)
This site-specific intervention by Marta Pazos for the Museum of Pontevedra is part of the series Infiltracións (Infiltrations), curated by Iñaki Martínez Antelo. This piece is based on an affective claim, the garden of the artist's grandmother, whose relationship with flowers becomes an emotional and conceptual trigger. Through a photographic archive and its subsequent digital manipulation, Pazos builds a vertical garden that colonises the Museum’s façade and even extends inside, where it establishes a dialogue with the floral paintings of the permanent collection. Flowers, as devices of memory, affection and resistance, here activate a reading that transcends the ornamental to become part of an iconographic tradition that, since ancient times, has served encode political, ecological and spiritual meanings. Within the framework of a biennial that having plants as an active subject, Dalia is aligned with a post-human and feminist sensibility that questions our contemporary relationship with nature, from the care aesthetics and the attentive listening to what flourishes on the fringes.
