Colour Square Sphere (2007)
This work by Olafur Eliasson uses mirrors, tinted glass, stainless steel frames and light bulbs to create a three-dimensional kaleidoscope that lights up the space. The work is made up of several squares fixed around a pentagon to form a complex pattern of geometric figures, such as triangles, rhombi and others, and create a sense of movement and depth. When viewers look into one of the square openings, the reflective glass generates the illusion of a sphere made up only of squares, while coloured reflections are cast onto the surrounding surfaces, thus creating a fascinating visual show. The artist tries to create an atmosphere where spectators can not only ask themselves questions, but also become involved in searching for answers, which can open up a space for hope and imagination. In his works, Eliasson wants to become a small sun illuminating the darkness of our nights and invite us all to dream and think about a better future.
