Alien Beehives and Alien Bee Masks (2021)

In these works, she deals with one of the most urgent concerns of our time: the ecological crisis. The beehive becomes a symbol of the relationship between humans and nature, and of the ecosystems' vulnerability. The disappearance of pollinators, such as bees, reveals the consequences of intensive agriculture and the use of pesticides, which have radically changed the environment. For bees, cities are now a cleaner refuge than the countryside. By addressing this crisis, Hulačová invites us to reflect on how humans have altered the natural balance, to the degree that the extinction of pollinators could transform our world into an inhospitable landscape, like that of a science-fiction dystopia. Through her sculptures, the artist not only depicts bees, but also turns them into a metaphor for the fragility of the body and human soul by connecting them with human figures and organic structures. In this context, Hulačová makes us think about post-humanism, where the relationship between humans and other living beings is becoming more and more ambiguous. Through her sculptures, she invites us to reflect deeply on our interdependence with the natural environment and the possible consequences of being disconnected from it.
