Vidas minadas. 25 años (Mined lives. 25 years)
At the exhibition Vidas minadas. 25 años, which can be seen in Afundación's Café Moderno, Gervasio Sánchez resumes a project that he began in 1995 and has continued to expand ever since. Through the stories of several anti-personnel mine victims - whom he met in hospitals or rehabilitation centres -, the photographer reflects on the long-lasting consequences of war. Some of them managed to rebuild their lives; others were not so fortunate. These images intend to show the dignity of many victims facing terrible situations. Sánchez also denounces the responsibility of those who allow these tragedies to continue: politicians, businessmen, weapon manufacturers. To him, this work is a form of resistance. Documenting what others prefer to forget.
