Todo comenzó como un sueño (Everything started as a dream, 2025)
The pieces that Carlos Bunga presents at the Pontevedra Biennial deeply reflect on the nomadic lifestyle, the community and the learning process in resistance contexts. In this video, he brings back the experience of the project Ciudad y Circo de los Muchachos of Benposta, a self-managed circus-city in Galicia that, in the midst of Franco's dictatorship, emerged as a form of daily resistance. Far from idealising the past, the video rebuilds fragments of collective memory to show how, even in authoritarian contexts, community practices, committed to mutual support and participatory education, can flourish. With a fast and close montage, Bunga evokes the physical space of the circus and the city and also articulates a critique of hegemonic educational models to claim systems in which children and young people make decisions and are educated collectively. The utopian voices accompanying the piece are a reminder that emancipatory pedagogy is not a distant utopia, but a specific political possibility.
