Reconstruction: Water (2024), Spacecraft (2024), Stellarator (2025), Growing a House (2025), An Artist (2025)
At the Pontevedra Biennial, Korotkova presents five pieces from the series Reconstruction, which belongs to the larger cycle Imagined Destination, which works as a space of critical speculation where the idea of future moves away from the promise of linear progress. These works create a setting where the links between human and non-human agents are reformulated. Through this series, the artist imagines future scenarios in which scientific advances have an almost archaeological value and living organisms - from plants to fungi - actively participate in reconstructing the environment. The protagonists of these scenes, known as ‘builders’, appear as figures in charge of rebuilding a world in transformation, where the laws of nature show themselves in unusual ways and the vestiges of human civilisation emerge as relics of a distant past. Korotkova's proposal questions mechanisms that have sustained our modern fictions and proposes other ways of narrating, inhabiting and withstanding.
