Francisco Antón Sanz, commissar of the Army of the Centre, accompanied on the speakers’ rostrum, among others, by the Polish brigadier Karol Wacław Świerczewski, known as General Walter, Dolores Ibárruri (la Pasionaria, ‘the passionate one’), the socialist commissar Julián Muñoz Lizcano and the Italian communist Luigi Longo (Gallo), at the rally organised for the Republican soldiers in one of the estates of Cuelgamuros Valley after the battle of Brunete.
