Soledad Penalta

Soledad Penalta (1943, Noia, Spain) is one of the most outstanding sculptors of her generation. In her career, she has explored different materials, ranging from ceramics to metal, iron, steel and, recently, granite. Penalta works with the materials, by listening and interpreting them, creating forms which merge human beings and plants. Moreover, she incorporates the word as a key part of her art. Texts by authors such as Omar Jayam or Jorge Oteiza are not only read, but also integrated into her work and transformed into a visual expression of thought. More than providing answers, she invites us to an active listening, to a corporal reading of the sculpture as a space of shared resonance.
