Miki Kratsman

Miki Kratsman (1959, Buenos Aires, Argentina) is a photographer and activist who has lived in Israel since 1971. For more than thirty years, he has been documenting the evolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and its consequences on the daily lives of the Palestinian population and disadvantaged minorities in Israel. For more than three decades, he has captured moments reflecting violence, memory, pain, resistance and hope, always from a perspective which questions the official stories of the conflict, and so he is regarded as a troublemaker by the State of Israel. He focuses not only on military events, but also on the daily experiences, often made invisible, of those who live in the areas most affected by the Israeli occupation. In 2004, he co-founded the organisation Breaking the Silence, a group of veteran soldiers who have served in the Israeli military and describe their experiences during the second intifada and in the occupied territories. Through this project, Kratsman and the members of the organisation want to show the experiences of those who have witnessed the violence and injustices which occurred in the Palestinian territories.
