Lois Patiño

Lois Patiño’s (1983, Vigo, Spain) work moves between experimental documentary, video art and auteur cinema, media he uses to share a way of looking at the world based on the experience rather than the representation. In contrast to an audiovisual panorama dominated by speed and over-stimulation, Patiño suggests a pause and strips cinema of ornaments to focus on its most essential elements: light, sound and time. In his films, the landscape is another protagonist, which breathes, feels and transforms itself with those who inhabit it. Lois Patiño is part of the Novo Cinema Galego, a Galician cinematographic movement characterised by its connection to the territory and a commitment to renew the cinematographic language. Over the last years, Patiño has focused on exploring the relationship between the human being and the landscape in order to transcend the conventional representation of the territory.
