Idoia Cuesta

Idoia Cuesta’s (1969, San Sebastián, Spain) work lies at the crossroads between craftsmanship, contemporary art and research on forms and matter. Her training in biology marked the beginning of an analytical vision that she has been able to integrate into her artistic creation. She studied Textile Techniques at the Craft and Design Center of Lugo to later delve into basketry and develop her own language based on natural materials and traditional procedures. Settled in rural Galicia, her work is influenced by the immediate environment. Her pieces, always made from sustainable fibers, act as tools to rethink the body, the territory and the memory. In them, the gesture of braiding, knotting or wrapping takes on a symbolic and political dimension.
