Artists
Francesc Torres (1948, Barcelona, Spain) is one of the most complex artists on the contemporary scene. Since his first forays into Catalan conceptual art in the 1970s, he has explored the intersection between politics, historical memory and power structures and has constantly questioned the role of art as an agent of social change. Torres has pioneered the use of video art and multimedia installation, but his work also extends to other media, including sculpture and photography. His work poses a fierce critique of the forms of media and political manipulation that shape present-day reality. His installations work as places of resistance, where images and objects are put at the service of radical transformation, questioning the social and political norms that build the collective imaginary.
