Carlos Fer
Carlos Fer (1997, Tui, Spain) is one of the artists selected in the Novos Valores, programme launched by the Provincial Council of Pontevedra (Deputación de Pontevedra) in collaboration with the 32nd Pontevedra Biennial, the Walter Leblanc Foundation (Brussels) and the centre for artists in residence Matadero Madrid. His work explores the limits of traditional painting and focuses on the idea of ‘anti-painting’ and on how exhibition formats affect the way a work is perceived. Fer researches how the physical arrangement of a painting in space can radically alter its meaning, as well as the viewer’s relationship with it. His proposal turns the seemingly banal act of hanging a painting into a gesture filled with conceptual tension, thus opening up questions about the spatial, material and symbolic dimensions of contemporary painting.
