Santiago Bridge

Santiago Bridge

Pontevedra

Santiago Bridge’s construction was a turning point in the relation between Pontevedra and the north of the region. It responded to a practical need, but its impact was also symbolic: it opened up the town towards Santiago de Compostela and A Coruña, and improved traffic flow between the town centre and the main exit routes. Today, it is part of the everyday landscape of the town and its name (Santiago, ‘Saint James’) also evokes the historical link with the Way of Saint James, which crosses Pontevedra in one of its most significant stages.
