Maneras de habitar un puente (Ways of inhabiting a bridge, 2025)
This is an installation created for the Santiago Bridge, an emblematic place that, according to Diana Larrea, not only represents the essence of the town of Pontevedra through its place name (Pontem veteram), but also symbolises the union of the physical and the spiritual worlds, two fundamental elements of our human nature. Through this reflection, the artist invites us to recognise our connection with the natural environment and the other species living on the planet. In her work, birds, which since ancient times have been a spiritual symbol in various cultures, represent human migration and eco-dependence. In her intervention, Larrea installs a series of polychrome wooden cubicles under the bridge, inspired by the town's traditional architecture. These elements, which refer to the feminine symbol of the nest, protect life and evoke the need to rethink our relationship with the world. Her proposal is close to eco-feminist practices and brings together ecological awareness and a criticism of the patriarchal capitalist system that exploits the earth as well as the human beings and animals.
