Cadáveres de presos muertos en los bombardeos de la OTAN contra la cárcel de Istok (Corpses of dead prisoners in the NATO bombing of Istok Prison, 2010)

Simeón Saiz Ruiz directly addresses the violence of war conflicts, in this case, those taking place in the Balkans. Using photographs taken from the media, this work does not provide a direct representation of the event, but focuses on the images that appeared in the press and on television, and questions how they were received by the public. Saiz Ruiz not only asks himself who killed the soldiers, but also how we can live with these images of violence. This reflection is connected with Susan Sontag's ideas in Regarding the Pain of Others, in which she addresses how viewing images of suffering can impact on the collective consciousness and how, despite the horror they portray, they become part of our daily visual routine, thus desensitising the viewers.
