Farida El Gazzar
Farida El Gazzar (1975, Alexandria, Egypt) is a Greek-Egyptian artist whose work explores the intersection between cultures, creating a bridge between the East and the West. Her art, which lies between painting, installation and video art, is nourished by a constant reflection on themes such as collective memory, fragmented identity, exile and the contradictions of migration. Through her pieces, El Gazzar highlights the complexities emerging from the intersections between the local and the global, the traditional and the contemporary, by confronting the historical and social contexts that shape our perceptions. Raised between Egypt and Europe, her artistic vision is rooted in these two worlds. Co-founder of the collective team WARDA (2003-2007), El Gazzar addresses issues of gender, culture and politics with a fresh and transgressive approach.
