Beatriz Ruibal

In her work, Beatriz Ruibal (1969, Pontevedra, Spain) is constantly paying attention to what is out of focus, to what disappears or, simply, is not shown. Through photography, video or installation, she creates spaces where archives, cultural memory, political ecology and the fragility of today coexist in constant tension. Ruibal works with materials and imaginaries that have been displaced or silenced by prevailing discourses, and also from a non-linear temporality, where the past is updated in the present as a form of resistance. In her pieces, the fragmentary, the residual, become a tool to think about the place of the body, the disappearance, the structural violence, and the forms of life that still survive on the fringes.
