Marta Fernández Calvo and Su Garrido Pombo: Una vajilla, una premonición

Performance. Running time: 40 min.
Marta Fernández Calvo's proposal re-examines five years of artistic work, which is materialised in an archival exercise that collects and makes possible the choral activation of all the material. This will be the first presentation of the archive, formalised in an installation and a performance that will be activated through a work mainly focused on sound and words.
Marta Fernández Calvo's (1978, Logroño, Spain) artistic work and research have been strongly influenced by food and care. Both concepts – and the inevitable connections between them – have lead to ongoing projects based on the recipes that generations of women cooked together during the Spanish dictatorship (Casas de comidas, Eating houses), ingredients that have looked after and protected groups of women in Mexico and Spain (Yo echo para atrás las cosas malas, I stay away from bad things) and foods that have crossed borders or that, in migration processes, have been forgotten or replaced by others (Food Chorus). Among the major topics of her artistic pieces are the fragility from which she works with networks of affection and care and the emotional material and responsibility resulting from this work.
This time she will be accompanied by Su Garrido Pombo, a singer, guitarist and composer from the city of Vigo. Her musical style covers various genres with bossa nova, folk, jazz and Latin influences. Her music is intimate and, in her live performances, her guitar and effects pedals are always present. She won the first prize in the Fran Narf Contest (2018) and the Martín Códax Award in the category of Singer-Songwriter Music (2019).
